As a young kid, their music meant the world to me...so I was disappointed when they didn't show-up. I was too young to realize what was going on, but I remember a number of kids (including me) started to cry when we realized we weren't gonna meet the Fab Four. I know for sure Imelda saw this (don't remember if the hubby saw it too)...so you guys do the math.

Watching the Beatles Anthology docu during the late 90's made me finally understand what REALLY went on from the Beatles' point of view. I still love 'em till this day, and I would have held back my tears if I knew then what I know now.

To those suggesting the Beatles swollen heads caused this: Be glad I'm not the screener. I don't have much patience for ignorance.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7510366480931064584.post-15243475110369361952008-08-13T09:15:00.000-04:002008-08-13T09:15:00.000-04:00I agree with B that its rubbish to suggest the Bea...I agree with B that its rubbish to suggest the Beatles were mistreated due to swollen heads.

For everyone's info, the Beatles NEVER had a downfall (why would their recordings continue to sell till this day?). Their supposed statement about being greater than God was taken out of context by an ignorant press. An even more ignorant public (some of whom belong to the religious right) made a big deal out of it even if the Beatles already explained their case which was shown in various documentaries and written about in countless Beatle books.

Those who don't know their Beatles history would be better-off if they just shut the f**k up.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7510366480931064584.post-41757781157742366442008-08-12T17:22:00.000-04:002008-08-12T17:22:00.000-04:00Patience is a virtue. That served them right having their security detail withdrawn. Of course, that was just given by the government as courtesy to the country's honored guests. The Philippines and the government tried to be the perfect host while they didn't try to be the perfect guest. I was taught that no matter how you hate a person, you still have to respect the person in his official capacity.

It was not the government who demanded to get all their concert earnings. It was their promoter who refused to pay The Beatles.

Soon after this incident was the decline of their popularity and eventual downfall. I don't know if it's because of their behavior in the Philippines that caused a backlash or their statement that "We're more popular than Jesus now". After the trip to the Philippines, they headed to India where only more than 500 people greeted them at the airport.sunnyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04416642015853983825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7510366480931064584.post-73768439639698228142008-08-12T01:52:00.000-04:002008-08-12T01:52:00.000-04:00Brian,This is an even better youtube video of the ...Brian,

This is an even better youtube video of the event. This is a little shocking. I was born in the ...WOW! This is a little shocking. I was born in the 70's, and always thought that corruption in the Philippines only began at around that time. But this encounter of the Beatles was way back in 1966! I had always thought that Manila in the 50s and 60s was an almost immaculate place.

It is quite a shock to see how soft a state the Philippines was even back then. Just a 'snub' to a First Lady, and automatically the media, police and airport officials became like rabid dogs chasing after them, whereas what would have been professional was for them to continue doing their jobs without paying attention to any hurt feelings of Imelda. Even back then it seems that people at the top acted like they ruled as kings and not public servants. What's even more disturbing is that even then, so many Filipinos were already acting like spineless, no-integrity serfs. As Ninoy Aquino liked to say, the Philippines is a country of 60 million cowards ruled by one son of a bitch. Apparently, this propensity for corrupt and cowardly servility made the Philippines a fertile ground for the likes of Marcos to grow and trample ordinary folks underfoot.gyakushomen?https://www.blogger.com/profile/00447199242109548355noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7510366480931064584.post-4517362535411532392008-08-11T21:18:00.000-04:002008-08-11T21:18:00.000-04:00This was the time that The Beatles thought they we...This was the time that The Beatles thought they were everything.
