The other fantastic event is the Philippine Red Party happening the next day at San Miguel by the Bay, SM Mall of Asia.

The Red Party Rationale
Medical students across Australia have rallied as part of a nation-wide effort to increase awareness of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired

Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), a devastating spectrum of disease afflicting an estimated 33 million people across the globe.

To raise awareness, Australian medical students have hosted several fundraising and educational events all around the country. Themed with the color red, the

international color for HIV and AIDS, the events have affectionately become known as 'Red Parties'.

Two of these Australian medical students, Patrick Aouad and Zabrina Abdool, from the Australian National University visited the Philippines recently. They

saw the plight of our fellowmen, especially those seeking consult at the Philippine General Hospital.

They returned to Australia and proposed that the Adult Infectious Disease section of the Philippine General Hospital be the Red Party’s recipient of a CD4

machine, an indispensable diagnostic tool for people living with HIV/AIDS. Fortunately for us, they were granted this request.

Thus the PHILIPPINE RED PARTY came to be.

We are medical specialists, HIV positive patients, and HIV awareness advocates.

The Philippine Red Party Project will hold a photo exhibit on August 25, 2009 and a benefit rock concert on September 5, 2009, simultaneous

with Australia’s Red Party.

Funds raised from these events will enable us to acquire an RT-PCR machine for doing HIV viral loads, to complement the CD4 machine from Australia.

Again- Proceeds from both events will be used to procure a viral load count machine for

the PGH. This will help take the burden away from the two centers in Manila (San Lazaro and RITM) servicing HIV patients.

ABS and GMA Drug Dealer Caught!

Dear Brian,

A good friend of mine is best friends with the suspect.
I'm not going to get into more detail as everything is mentioned in that article.
Audie is/was the number 1 E dealer to the stars!
I think he might squeal to get a deal.
He's being held at PDEA right now while he waits for his lawyer to figure out how he can get out of it.
He might squeal but I'm not sure he will
His friends want him to if it means he gets a better deal
His clients were mostly the young stars from both ABS CBN and GMA

The funny thing is Option 1 is to have him escape to America

Rich kids are just too lucky.

Ecstasy dealer nabbed By: Alfred P. Dalizon

A SUSPECTED big-time dealer of the designer drug called “Ecstasy” was arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in an entrapment operation in Quezon City last Friday, PDEA chair, Senior Undersecretary Dionisio R. Santiago announced yesterday.

Audie Lawrence D. Co,30, a resident of no. 17 V. Kalaw Street, Tierra Pura Homes in Tandang Sora, Q.C. was arrested weeks after he was placed on surveillance by PDEA operatives amid reports he was involved in the sale of the designer drug known “Ecstasy” or “party” drug in high-end clubs in Metro Manila, said Santiago.

Santiago said Co was arrested along the vicinity of City Lifestyle, Timog Avenue corner Tomas Morato, Q.C. 2 p.m. last Friday just shortly after he sold 400 tablets of Ecstasy to a poseur-buyer for P200,000.

The suspect was also found in possession of another 100 tablets of the same designer drug and was charged with sale and possession of dangerous drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The arrest of Co came after two high-profile anti-narcotics operations by the PDEA which resulted in the killing of a notorious member of the Canadian Hell’s Angels Gang, Antonio Kcompt, on Giraffe Street. Green Meadows, Bgy. Ugong Norte in Q.C., and dismissed Senior Insp. Nathaniel Capitanea.

The 37-year-old Kcompt was tagged as an exclusive distributor of Ecstasy capsules in Metro Manila who is also wanted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for fraud and theft, Santiago said.

Santiago said Kcompt, a Canadian citizen of Chinese descent, has been identified by the RCMP as being involved in the trafficking of cocaine and Ecstasy particularly those in capsule form in Canada and even in Manila.

He reportedly is an “asset” of the National Bureau of Investigation, the PDEA chair added.

Last Saturday morning, combined PDEA and Makati City police agents shot dead Capitanea in a firefight in a posh condominium in Rockwell Makati.

HIV... to Cut or Not to Cut

Published: August 23, 2009

Public health officials are considering promoting routine circumcision for all baby boys born in the United States to reduce the spread of H.I.V., the virus that causes AIDS.

The topic is a delicate one that has already generated controversy, even though a formal draft of the proposed recommendations, due out from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by the end of the year, has yet to be released.

Experts are also considering whether the surgery should be offered to adult heterosexual men whose sexual practices put them at high risk of infection. But they acknowledge that a circumcision drive in the United States would be unlikely to have a drastic impact: the procedure does not seem to protect those at greatest risk here, men who have sex with men.

Recently, studies showed that in African countries hit hard by AIDS, men who were circumcised reduced their infection risk by half. But the clinical trials in Africa focused on heterosexual men who are at risk of getting H.I.V. from infected female partners.

For now, the focus of public health officials in this country appears to be on making recommendations for newborns, a prevention strategy that would only pay off many years from now. Critics say it subjects baby boys to medically unnecessary surgery without their consent.

But Dr. Peter Kilmarx, chief of epidemiology for the division of H.I.V./AIDS prevention at the C.D.C., said that any step that could thwart the spread of H.I.V. must be given serious consideration.

“We have a significant H.I.V. epidemic in this country, and we really need to look carefully at any potential intervention that could be another tool in the toolbox we use to address the epidemic,” Dr. Kilmarx said. “What we’ve heard from our consultants is that there would be a benefit for infants from infant circumcision, and that the benefits outweigh the risks.”

He and other experts acknowledged that although the clinical trials of circumcision in Africa had dramatic results, the effects of circumcision in the United States were likely to be more muted because the disease is less prevalent here, because it spreads through different routes and because the health systems are so disparate as to be incomparable.

Clinical trials in Kenya, South Africa and Uganda found that heterosexual men who were circumcised were up to 60 percent less likely to become infected with H.I.V. over the course of the trials than those who were not circumcised.

There is little to no evidence that circumcision protects men who have sex with men from infection.

Another reason circumcision would have less of an impact in the United States is that some 79 percent of adult American men are already circumcised, public health officials say.

But newborn circumcision rates have dropped in recent decades, to about 65 percent of newborns in 1999 from a high of about 80 percent after World War II, according to C.D.C. figures. And blacks and Hispanics, who have been affected disproportionately by AIDS, are less likely than whites to circumcise their baby boys, according to the agency.

Circumcision rates have fallen in part because the American Academy of Pediatrics, which sets the guidelines for infant care, does not endorse routine circumcision. Its policy says that circumcision is “not essential to the child’s current well-being,” and as a result, many state Medicaid programs do not cover the operation.

The academy is revising its guidelines, however, and is likely to do away with the neutral tone in favor of a more encouraging policy stating that circumcision has health benefits even beyond H.I.V. prevention, like reducing urinary tract infections for baby boys, said Dr. Michael Brady, a consultant to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

He said the academy would probably stop short of recommending routine surgery, however. “We do have evidence to suggest there are health benefits, and families should be given an opportunity to know what they are,” he said. But, he said, the value of circumcision for H.I.V. protection in the United States is difficult to assess, adding, “Our biggest struggle is trying to figure out how to understand the true value for Americans.”

Circumcision will be discussed this week at the C.D.C.’s National H.I.V. Prevention Conference in Atlanta, which will be attended by thousands of health professionals and H.I.V. service providers.

Among the speakers is a physician from Operation Abraham, an organization based in Israel and named after the biblical figure who was circumcised at an advanced age, according to the book of Genesis. The group trains doctors in Africa to perform circumcisions on adult men to reduce the spread of H.I.V.

Members of Intact America, a group that opposes newborn circumcision, have rented mobile billboards that will drive around Atlanta carrying their message that “circumcising babies doesn’t prevent H.I.V.,” said Georganne Chapin, who leads the organization.

Although the group’s members oppose circumcision on broad philosophical and medical grounds, Ms. Chapin argued that the studies in Africa found only that circumcision reduces H.I.V. infection risk, not that it prevents infection. “Men still need to use condoms,” Ms. Chapin said.

In fact, while the clinical trials in Africa found that circumcision reduced the risk of a man’s acquiring H.I.V., it was not clear whether it would reduce the risk to women from an infected man, several experts said.

“There’s mixed data on that,” Dr. Kilmarx said. But, he said, “If we have a partially successful intervention for men, it will ultimately lower the prevalence of H.I.V. in the population, and ultimately lower the risk to women.”

Circumcision is believed to protect men from infection with H.I.V. because the mucosal tissue of the foreskin is more susceptible to H.I.V. and can be an entry portal for the virus. Observational studies have found that uncircumcised men have higher rates of other sexually transmitted diseases like herpes and syphilis, and a recent study in Baltimore found that heterosexual men were less likely to have become infected with H.I.V. from infected partners if they were circumcised.

Drug Den Shambassy Closed AGAIN!

Popular Disco bar in Taguig closed anew

By JEAN FERNANDO

The Taguig City government ordered Friday the immediate closure of a popular disco bar at the Bonifacio Global City, following the stabbing and serious wounding of a customer by a club habitué and the alleged escape of the suspect in connivance with three employees.

Taguig City Business Permits and Licenses Office head Jeff Minglana said the Embassy Super Club and Embassy Cuisine at the Fort Strip will remain closed “until such time that a full investigation on the incident by proper authorities is conducted and completed.”

Minglana said he was directed by Mayor Sigfrido Tinga to serve the closure order on the club based on the complaint of the stabbing victim.

Minglana said the stabbing happened in the premises of Embassy Cuisine at about 1:30 a.m. last Tuesday, Aug. 18. The alleged connivance between the bouncers and the suspect reportedly facilitated the escape of the assailant.

Taguig police chief, Sr. Supt. Camilo Cascolan, said the victim was a 34-year-old businessman whose name was withheld for security reasons. His alleged attacker was identified as a certain “Kilikan Jimenez.”

Cascolan said that before the stabbing, a friend of the businessman reportedly figured in a quarrel with Jimenez.

In the ensuing confrontation, Jimenez allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim, hitting him in the body and back.

The bouncers reportedly took the victim out of the establishment through the front door. Taguig policemen who were stationed outside the establishment took him to the Makati Medical Center where he had to undergo operation.

Gilbey Gallart Loganera, investigating security officer of the Bonifacio Estate Services Corp., said accounts given by security men detailed in the area pointed to Embassy bouncers Gilbert Rempis, Joven Bantique, and Gilbert Battung as the ones who facilitated the escape of Jimenez through the club’s back door.

Cascolan said policemen from the Police Community Precinct 7, which has jurisdiction over the area, were allowed to stay only outside Embassy’s premises.

UPDATE!!

(8:21 a.m., August 24)

SPOT.ph just received the Official Statement of Embassy Cuisine from co-owner and PR Tim Yap denying earlier reports that their bouncers connived to facilitate the escape of the suspect Kilikan Jimenez through their back door:

“An untoward incident involving certain patrons of EMBASSY CUISINE which occurred last 18 August 2009 is currently being investigated by officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) – Taguig City.

Contrary to certain allegations which have been published and reported in media, the management of, and security personnel engaged by, Cuisine did not allow, assist in, facilitate nor condone the immediate departure from the premises of any of the parties involved in the incident. In the said incident, the management and security personnel of Cuisine faithfully observed and implemented the proper security procedure, immediately sought the assistance of the PNP officers assigned to the area, and promptly endorsed the matter and parties involved to the PNP officers for the taking of appropriate legal action. The management of Cuisine did not and will not tolerate the evasion by any party of legal liability, and is presently extending its full cooperation to the PNP-Taguig City in the latter’s investigation of the incident.

The management of Cuisine wishes to assure its patrons that it remains committed to providing them an entertainment venue where their safety and enjoyment are of the utmost importance.”

Embassy Cuisine and Superclub closed down by Taguig local government indefinitely
(Updated 8:58 p.m., first posted at 1:24 a.m on August 21):
Both Embassy Cuisine and Embassy Superclub were closed indefinitely by the local government of Taguig City due to a stabbing incident that occurred last Tuesday, reports the Inquirer.net.

The Inquirer reports that a patron named Kilikan Jimenez allegedly stabbed 34-year-old businessman Dennis Navarro II with a bladed weapon at Embassy Cuisine past 1 a.m. on August 18. The victim, said to have mediated during a fight between his friend and Jimenez, was wounded on his right side and back and was rushed by Embassy security personnel to Makati Medical Center where he underwent an operation.

Petition 811 People So Far!

MOJO is the 'offensive' billboard
UPDATE!!!!! 811 signatures so far!!!!!

I am signature #1!

The advocacy's of gay and lesbian communities in the Philippines have always been about freedom from any form bigotry and discrimination. The fight has been taken to several arenas – media, legal, political, medical, and even religious.

Last week, a billboard that featured Mojo Jojo endorsing the GlutaMAX product lines, became a cause of celebration not only among the gay communities but to all those who value freedom and equality in this country. The tagline, “I Wake Up Whiter and Gay Each Day” is a proud declaration of DJ Mojo Jojo, the first openly gay DJ in the airwaves, not only about his skincare but about his lifestyle choices as well.

Last night, August 18, 2009, the billboard was taken down. We heard rumors that the site owner gave in to the pressure from influential church groups who said that the billboard promotes a sinful life and is against the cultural and moral sensibilities of the general public.

We beg to disagree. We take offense in the insinuation that a simple declaration of one’s chosen skincare and lifestyle destroys the moral fabric of our society. We strongly demand that the billboard be re-installed, if bigger and in a better location ASAP.

what's the point of having this particular billboard up? I'm all for the community but why this particular one? There are a lot of hetero ads all around with sexual innuendo. There's enough of that in the phils. If the church is talking about propriety and sin, why not take all of them down. The fact that they don't is discrimination. I personally find this ad distasteful, come out the closet in style. But to each his own.

Behind the Gay Red Curtain

Dear Readers,

It's a very sad disturbing fact....

Gays in China live a difficult life under social bias.

Gu Du was the victim of extortion.
He was blackmailed, as well as being chastised by his employer and almost fired.

The reason:
Gu is gay.

Gu worked in machine design for a Chengdu company. His father used to be head of this State-owned enterprise and his mother works in the trade union of the same company. He shared a company dormitory room with a few co-workers and surfed the Internet on his own computer after work.

One night about six months ago, he was spotted browsing a gay website by his roommate co-worker. Confronted by him, he initially denied he was gay. But his roommate knew better.

The roommate offered him a choice: Gu could pay him 5,000 yuan (US$616) in hush money or he would tell the boss.

Gu was agitated, but thought the man was bluffing. A few days later, he was called to see the head of the company.

"I heard you have been engaged in hooliganism," said the boss, using a term that covers conduct as severe as rape and as light as saying four-letter words, or "shua liu mang" in Chinese.

Gu denied doing anything wrong, but upon interrogation he admitted he was a homosexual and had been leafing through a few gay-themed websites in his spare time. He said he did not look at porno sites, however.

But his boss was not interested in such technicalities. He threatened to slap him with some kind of penalty.

Before that materialized, Gu was faced with the biggest penalty he could imagine: the incident was reported to his parents.

His father was so furious he disowned the son. "I wish I'd never had you as my son," he yelled.

The news struck Gu Du's mother as a bolt of lightning from the sky. She fell sick and had to be hospitalized. His brother and sister refused to talk to him any more, saying they were "ashamed of having a sibling who's abnormal."

In despair, Gu Du thought of killing himself. "I couldn't go to work again. Even though they didn't fire me, I had to suffer the looks from all my colleagues," he told China Daily.

He ended up leaving Chengdu for Hangzhou, a city where he didn't know anyone and nobody knew he was gay.

proud marchers in China

Family pressure

Last November, government agencies published a report that put the number of gay men in China who are "of a sexually active age" at 5-10 million. Scientists say this is the low end of the estimate. They figure that there are around 30-40 million homosexual men and women in total.

In 1997, China's Criminal Law decriminalized sodomy. In 2001, homosexuality was removed from the list of mental disorders by health authorities.

But the changing law does not necessarily change public perception. Most gay people interviewed for this story agree that the single biggest source of pressure and stigma comes from their own families. "My employer doesn't care about my private life, and the neighbourhood grandma is not nosy any more. But there's no way I can get past my own mum and dad," said Lu Youni, a Guangzhou high school teacher.

Most parents cannot imagine in their wildest dreams that their children could be gay. They usually do not pick up the subtle signals that hint that their kids may be attracted to those of their own sex. When revelation dawns, it is normally such a shock that it feels like falling into a vortex of tongue-tied humiliation.

"They'd rather I became paralyzed, so that they could give me unconditional love and sympathy. If I became an alien, at least they would be curious about me," said Gu Du.

Unlike Gu, a few people take the calculated step of "coming out" to their parents. Fei Xue, a Jiangsu man who works in a local tax agency, had maintained a very close relationship with his father, who is a medical expert. Believing he was in a better position than most gay men whose parents are "less educated about these things," Fei showed his diary to his father, in which he detailed his emotional life. Father thumbed through each page, and then left his room quietly.

The next day, his father told him to cut off all connections with his gay friends and forbade him to leave his hometown for work elsewhere. "Now I advise others to be extremely cautious before they come out," he sighed.

There are occasional reports of parents who acquiesce or look the other way. Some are well - informed enough to know that their gay children do not have any "disease," they are just different from the majority. Others can accept it as long as their gay children are happy. But insiders suggest that these "Wedding Banquet" scenarios are few and far between.

The pitfall of marriage

The film "Wedding Banquet," directed by Ang Lee, portrays a gay son who is coerced into marriage. This is the fate of 80-90 per cent of gays in China, according to research.

Traditionally, the Chinese did not frown upon homosexuality as much as those in Christian countries in the West. In some dynasties such as Han, it was viewed almost as a "chic lifestyle." On the other hand, the Chinese place a tremendous emphasis on "carrying on the family line." If a man remains unmarried at the age of 30, his parents fret and nag and devote a significant amount of time to finding a spouse for him.

"What can I do? If I don't marry, I will break my parents' hearts. If I do marry, I'll ruin the life of an innocent girl," lamented Lu Youni, the Guangzhou teacher, who was, in the end, dragged into matrimony.

Some men search for lesbians in order to feign marriages that can be mutually beneficial. But since finding a lesbian is much harder than finding a gay man in China, most settle into a "marriage of convenience" in which the other party is kept in the dark. Many also want to believe that they can change their sexual orientation if they try hard enough.

These marriages invariably end in tragedy. However, they do take off much of the pressure from the family. Parents tend to believe that gay children do not remarry because they are heart-broken from their failed marriage, and if the marriage results in offspring, so much the better.

However, more and more young people oppose these arrangements on moral grounds. Unless their spouses know the situation when tying the conjugal knot, it is unethical to involve them in these cover-up schemes, they insist.

The more imminent danger is not moral, but physiological. Gay men who lead double lives are far more likely to spread the HIV virus to their families and to the heterosexual community, doctors maintain.
"Discrimination has made life difficult for gays in China," said Cai Yumao, a medical expert in Shenzhen involved in the Rainbow Work Team, a community outreach programme that helps gays on health matters. "Because they cannot lead a normal sexual life, some of them are tempted to live on the edge and take risks when it comes to sexual practices."

Cai did not deny that gays also have responsibilities and should refrain from unsafe practices no matter what. But he cautioned against the fallacy that homosexuality somehow equals AIDS or sexual diseases. "Metaphorically brushing homosexuals under the rug or throwing mud at them won't solve the problem. Rather, it will exacerbate the problem," he warned.

I love this picture so much

New trends

Another hazard of shaming gays back into the closet is the emergence of "gay for pay", or "money boys" who are not really gay but offer sexual services for money and are often involved in extortion schemes. These people take advantage of gay people's fears that their true identity will be uncovered. As a consequence, robberies and even murders have been reported.

According to Zhang Beichuan, a Qingdao-based expert on the issue, 38 per cent of gays have been hurt because of their sexual encounters; 21.3 per cent have been hurt by straight lovers and 21 per cent have been victimized when their identity was exposed, suffering insults, beatings or blackmail.

For all the negative news, life for gays in China has improved on the whole. The Internet plays a big part. Gays used to believe they were the only ones in the world who were different, and now they can turn to online communities for help, to socialize, and date. Many love stories have been posted on the net, and many people find that homosexual love can be just as romantic, passionate or heart-breaking as a heterosexual affair.

Gay bars have sprung up all over the metropolitan landscape. Here people can mingle in a normal setting, away from sleazy bathrooms and dirty public toilets where they are putting their health at risk. But "money boys" often mar the scene instead.

Most encouraging are the hotlines and health centres that have cropped up in cities like Shenzhen, Chongqing and Hangzhou. Homosexuals can consult specialists for psychological and medical help. Tests for HIV and venereal diseases are offered free, with guaranteed anonymity.

Meanwhile, Gu Du has not given up hope of his parents' acceptance. But each time he calls them, they hang up.

He should probably send them a book by Li Yinhe, China's top expert on homosexuality, or words by Wang Xiaobo, Li's late husband who was himself a renowned social commentator: "Any sexual relationship that is long-term, stable and built on love should be respected. Gays should take a positive attitude towards life."

Good Bye Tita Cory

MANILA, Philippines — Former President Corazon Aquino, who swept away a dictator with a "people power" revolt and sustained democracy by fighting off seven coup attempts in six years, died on Saturday, her son said. She was 76.

The uprising she led in 1986 ended the repressive 20-year regime of Ferdinand Marcos and inspired nonviolent protests across the globe, including those that ended communist rule in eastern Europe. Aquino rose to power after the 1983 assassination of her husband, opposition leader Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.

She was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer last year and confined to a Manila hospital for more than a month. Her son said the cancer had spread to other organs and she was too weak to continue chemotherapy.

For the past month, supporters have been holding daily prayers for Aquino in churches.

"She was headstrong and single-minded in one goal, and that was to remove all vestiges of an entrenched dictatorship," Raul C. Pangalangan, former dean of the College of Law at the University of the Philippines, said earlier this month. "We all owe her in a big way."

But Aquino struggled in office to meet high public expectations. Her land redistribution program fell short of ending economic domination by the landed elite, including her own family. Her leadership, especially in social and economic reform, was often indecisive, leaving many of her closest allies disillusioned by the end of her term.

Still, the bespectacled, smiling woman in her trademark yellow dress remained beloved in the Philippines, where she was affectionately referred to as "Tita (Auntie) Cory."

Her son, Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, said she died at 3:18 a.m. Saturday (1918 GMT Friday). Requiem Masses were scheduled for later Saturday, and yellow ribbons were tied on trees around her neighborhood in Quezon city.

Dear Tita Cory,

You were and will always remain an amazing woman. It's so sad to see you pass. Your husband was murdered and yet you found the strength to push forward and fight the good fight. What you did was remarkable and the world will never forget it. The Filipino people are forever indebted to you. I pray for you and your wonderful husband who is so missed and remembered. Tita Cory, you represent so much in this world that is good and decent. Yes some will look upon your time as President and say this and that.... BUT look what you inherited from Ferdinand and Imelda! What a superb human being you were always putting the Filpino people first despite the devastation you must have felt when Ninoy was shot on the tarmac. You never had the opportunity to say good bye to him.

I hope you two will be re united in heaven.
I really do.
Thank you Cory for being you.
The world is better off because of your shining tribute to life and survival and purpose and love for your fellow man and woman.

Good bye and may God take you back in his open warm arms.

Bless your family and loved ones.
Bless the Philippines and all it peoples.
From the bottom of my heart.
