Why I Blog #239

Together, we make a difference.....

Subject: HIV and my brother

Message: hi
bryan,

I just wanted to share a sad story...2 weeks ago, my brother took his own life.

He was gay, but this we knew long ago.
What we found out after he died was that he was HIV positive.

We had no idea and what we gathered from his friends was that he did not want to tell me and my mom.
He didn't want to burden us with the worry and most probably with the shame.

I regret that I did not show him that no matter what we will support him, that we didn't always let him know we accepted him. he was probably correct in assuming that we would be shocked and ashamed, but i will never be able to let him know that this would be an initial reaction and eventually we would learn to accept and live with this.

bryan, i hope you continue educating people about safe sex and reaching out to those who have HIV. i hope cases like what happened to my brother will be diminished.
thanks for listening.

We didnt let others know how he died because we wanted to preserve his memory as a happy person...

though you don't know me, just telling you this makes feel like my load is a bit lighter. I have been reading your blog though since its inception. I may not always agree with your views but you have given me a lot of insight and perspective in the last 2 years

Stay well.

thanks,

**** ******

Princess Diana's Legacy Lives On

Prince William and Prince Harry visited Semonkong, Lesotho where they donned cultural garb to visit herd boys and play with babies--which meant wrapping themselves in blankets as the Basotho people do to keep warm. They were also given soccer shirts to sport when kicking around the ol' football.-Huffpost

Princess Diana was a true angel on earth

Diana would be so proud of her boys William and Harry

The editor if this american religious magazine was obviously NOT using his own head when choosing this picture for their June cover.
Or was he?

Gay Inspiration

I love this guy.
So cool.
I sure hope I'm an old gay one day too.
I just have to keep taking my meds... and I should get there.
Be proud.

RIP Blanche Devereaux

This is very sad news.

My favourite Golden Girl, Rue McClanahan has died at the age of 76.

"She passed away at 1 a.m. this morning," her manager, Barbara Lawrence, tells PEOPLE. "She had a massive stroke."

McClanahan, who played man-happy Blanche Devereaux on the still-popular '80s sitcom
Golden Girls, had suffered a minor stroke earlier this year while recovering from bypass surgery. Lawrence also said that at the time of her death Thursday, McClanahan “had her family with her. She went in peace.”

Sweet Dreams Do Come True

Scottish rock singer Annie Lennox has become a spokeswoman for the UN agency fighting HIV/AIDS.

She was appointed as UNAIDS' goodwill ambassador on Wednesday, and pledged to address the "daily brutality faced by millions of women and girls" suffering from the disease.

The 55-year-old musician achieved fame with The Eurythmics, whose song Sweet Dreams reached No 1 in the United States in 1983.

She has since performed as a solo artist and spoken out on political issues. Her SING campaign raises awareness of AIDS-infected women in southern Africa.

Lennox said: "If we are to end the cycle of human devastation triggered by the AIDS epidemic, we must address the rights of women and girls, and challenge their second-class citizen status, which puts them at greater risk of HIV."

Just Married

Sue Sylvester may be unlucky in love but the actor who plays her is not.

Jane Lynch wedded longtime partner, Lara Embry, Monday evening in an intimate ceremony held at Blue Heron Restaurant in Massachusetts, reports People magazine.

Ditching the androgynous tracksuits that have defined her Glee character, Lynch dressed up in dark pants and a creme blouse while Embry opted for a sleek grey and off-white dress.

The married couple celebrated at a small reception of 19 guests as a jazz band provided the entertainment for the evening, which wrapped up around 10 p.m.

Lynch told People magazine earlier this year, “It’s just the greatest thrill in the world to find somebody that you want to be with every day.” -AP
