Philippine Star Plagiarist?

Who would actually believe that they could plagiarize The New York Times and get away with it? Mayenne Carmona from the Philippine Star, that's who. Her column that was published on August 2nd in the Philippine Star looks eerily identical to one I read by Maureen Dowd last July 6th in the NY Times. Some bits and pieces:

Dowd Original:

Father Pat Connor, a 79-year-old Catholic priest born in Australia and based in Bordentown, N.J., has spent his celibate life — including nine years as a missionary in India — mulling connubial bliss. His decades of marriage counseling led him to distill some “mostly common sense” advice about how to dodge mates who would maul your happiness.

Carmona Copy:

The answer seems to lie in the wisdom of Fr. Pat Connor, a 70-year-old Catholic priest born in Australia and based in Bordentown, NJ. This genteel priest has spent his celibate life — including nine years as a missionary in India — mulling connubial bliss. His decades of marriage counseling led him to distill “mostly common -sense” advice about how to avoid getting hitched to the “wrong marriage material” kind of guys.
And it goes on and on.

I was actually ready to dismiss this as a case of Dowd and Carmona using the same news source (i.e. AFP, AP, etc), and thus coming up with the same summarized bullet points from the Conner talk. But the kicker comes in the end, where Carmona conveniently replaces Dowd's group of high school girls with her own fictional "divorced friend."
Dowd Original:

“After I regale a group with this talk, the despairing cry goes up: ‘But you’ve eliminated everyone!’ Life is unfair.”

Carmona Copy:

"How am I going to find a new husband?” sighed my newly divorced friend. “He just about eliminated everyone! Life is not fair."
Hmmm.
