I never liked Celine Lopez. I use to live near her parents place in Dasma (clue) when she still stayed there. Modest size house. Ours is even bigger. But they got lotsa cars, more than ours. I have been wanting to be a contributor/columnist/writer for a newspaper or magazine ever since but never really knew how to apply for the job. I'd check the newspapers, and try to look for where to address my articles if I wanted to contribute. Something like : Interested contributors, send your articles to _______.
But they never had it.
Then I'd read the columns in The Star and the articles sucked big time! I wondered how the hell they got the job, and thought that it probably isn't that difficult then to land a writing job at the Star. I mean you had phrases like: "She made a 360 degree turn in her life" or something stupid like that. The articles were always so poorly written, riddled with grammatical errors, and the English sounded so awkward. And I'd be thinking, man, I write so much better than this, how did these dimwits land the job? The Star must be desperate!
As the saga unfolded on this blog, I suddenly understood. These magazines/newspapers - they don't hire for writing skill - it's all power play and politics! Then I had to kick myself in the head for thinking that competence would actually account for something in a Filipino-run company.
I must apologize, I am society-oblivious. The name Celine Lopez to me is nothing more than the name of the writer of this column I happened to read in the Star whose English sucked so bad and whose literary style was as bad as a high school dropout's. The column was so boring, the voice and tenses were inconsistent, and the whole piece just sounded forced. Like she'd thought it in Tagalog then translated it to English.
Now I understand how those talentless dalmatians actually got their own column. And I will never buy the Philippine Star again.
Incidentally, I am quite impressed with the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Their writers actually are not as painful to read as the Star's. I think they hire truly based on writing skill.
Or have my standards sunk so low after being exposed to the lack of skill of the writers in the Philippine Star?

I first heard about your blog in the news. I later saw a colleague checking out your blog during break time, so when I got home I decided to read the entire story myself. I know the people you mentioned through the newspaper my family has been subscribing to. I have also contributed some articles in that broadsheet, when I'm not too busy with work.
I have often wondered myself why the RATS let these scandal ridden people continue to write, when most of the time they just write trashy stuff. Its really puzzling the way the RATS hired these people, when there are more talented writers who could write about more sensible topics. In fact, I have often wondered whether they have any readers at all. And I doubt whether they still have any, especially now that their lack of integrity has been exposed.
Kitty Go is right when she said that they're just a waste of space.
I hope you get justice for what these horrible people did to you. But despite your experience, I hope you and the rest of the world will not think that all Filipinos are like that. Majority of us are still decent, honorable Pinoys. Trying to earn honest living.

The reason why I am so touched with this is that I have a white guy lover too for 6 years now and I never had the time to think of doing such to him. I am not denying the fact that yes my lover/partner for 6 years now is sending funds to me via WESTERN UNION extending his help for me. My family belongs to lower than the middle class and the earnings a typical call center guys wouldnt really be much enough to send 2 siblings to college as my parents just have a little backyard farming of some sort which would not pay off until 9- over a year of a little land of sugarcane and corn and rice plantation.But all the money he sends to me is all for my family and my two siblings who I am currently supporting to finish school as I have not finished college myself. But this doesnt mean that I am digging my white guy lover ass out to send me more than what I need to live for. He knows everything about my life and I was with drugs way back but I am now cleaned and has stand back from where I fall.
As a gay man, I worked hard every inch of every effort to support my family and take every opportunity thats coming along the way. It pains me a lot to know that this so-called high end individuals are actually making money out of nothing with their charms in solicititations from someone to get high and dry on drugs.
I hope that this will come to an end. I am pretty sure someone is going to pay up ( to someone high above ) if the law of the land wont work for DJ.
